Parents' Association
March News from the St. Michael’s Parents’ Association
Yay Spring – well, almost anyway. As always your SMPA committees have been working hard and having fun. Here’s what has been happening and what is yet to come:
Teacher appreciation week was a great success!
A very special thank you to all those volunteers who graciously provided goodies to our wonderful faculty and staff each day this past week, to celebrate their dedication to our children! They truly appreciated your efforts, enjoyed the “theme of the day” and stopped by for a welcome retreat daily. Please be sure and claim serving dishes this week and have a wonderful spring break with your families and friends!
Book Fair proceeds exposed the voracious bookworm in each St. Michael’s child and teacher! The SMPA earned over $5500 in cash and books donated to the school. Thanks so much to Charlotte and Carolyn and their bubbly band of bookies.
The Tennis Round Robin is finally a reality! Come watch and cheer on your favorites. We will be playing at Bon Air Community Center
Friday, April 9. Questions – Contact Kathryn Johnson 379-9360 / xander3@msn.com
We have new accounting procedures at the SMPA. There is a new deposit form and a check request form for committees to use. These forms should be handed into the Treasurer, Jenn Street, to be approved before check requests are honored by the business office. Check requests will be honored twice monthly. You can download the new forms from the links above or pick them up in the SMPA room at Bon Air. Thanks very much for your cooperation.
A Scrip testimonial from a happy Scrip client:
I’m a big fan if Scrip. I can’t always participate in all the events or fund raisers that St. Michael’s has, but I buy groceries and gas every week so the scrip program is the perfect way for me to help St. Michael’s. Sometimes I shop at Ukrops’ so I buy some BP gas cards so I can fill up my tank and use my Ukrops’ fuel perks at the same time. Sometimes I shop at Kroger so I have a Kroger card which I use for groceries and for gas and when the card is empty I just take it up to the customer center in Kroger and put another $200 on it. I think of it as a “Kroger charge card”. The proceeds continue to go to St. M. Across the street from my house is a Sheetz station so I periodically buy $100 Sheetz cards. I give one to my 17 year old daughter who drives herself to Cosby HS everyday. I suspect she may be buying lattes on the side, but at least she’s not waking me up at 5:45 a.m. any more asking for gas money. My 19 year old has a Sheetz card in her wallet, just in case, and of course I have one. We have three cars and are always on the way to some game, practice or something. My 20 year old flannel sheets are so thin you can read the paper through them so I waited for LLBean’s February white sale and ordered gift cards to buy the new sheets. I also like to keep a few i-tune gift cards around for when one of the kids comes home with “a birthday party I have to go to tomorrow”. Go down the list, see where you regularly shop. Have I spent any money I wouldn’t have spent anyway? No. Has St. M gotten some good donations? The way we eat and drive? Oh yeah. And filling it out on line is super easy if you like to do it that way. Not to mention, you can load that Kroger card up all summer and St. M still gets the money. ~ Martha Straton
Thanks everybody for making the SMPA the well-run machine it is! Cheers, Tonya Walker

Spiritwear Sales
St. Michael’s participates in the “preferred school program” with Land’s End. For each item purchased through their Uniforms Program, Land’s End donates 3% to St. Michael’s. Land’s End clothes are high quality and 100% guaranteed. Land’s End is a great place to purchase collared shirts, sweaters and pants. All items can be monogrammed with our “St. M.” logo for a $5.50 fee. In order for St. Michael’s to receive the 3% donation, purchasers must enter our “preferred school number” which is 900128059.
The easiest way to order is on-line: go to www.landsend.com/school, and click on “look up your preferred school number or dress code.” Enter the fields under the “school name” tab: United States, Virginia, Richmond, and St Michaels. Do not put a “period” after St or it will not find our school. Next, click “shop using this number.” From here, the website takes you to the on-line store, where each item you choose will be connected to our preferred number, and it will give you the option to monogram using our logo.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Amy Marshall at macnamy@verizon.net or call her at 378-0632.
