Scientia Et Amor Dei
Our motto – “Scientia Et Amor Dei” – signifies that St. Michael’s is dedicated to knowledge and the love of God.
Celebrating Over 50 Years Of Educational Excellence
St. Michael’s is the oldest metropolitan independent school south of the James River. Established in 1957 by St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, the school remains committed to providing a superior education to children of all races and religions.
St. Michael’s Episcopal School is accredited by the Virginia Association of Independent Schools (VAIS), and is a member of the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) and the National Association of Episcopal Schools (NAES). St. Michael’s Lower School is located on 13.75 acres in Chesterfield County’s historic Bon Air community. The Singleton Campus for our Middle School is just three miles away on thirty acres in a natural setting complete with trees, granite formations, and a five acre lake. The student body comes from Chesterfield, Goochland, Powhatan, Henrico, and Hanover counties, as well as from the city of Richmond. St. Michael’s size and its dedicated faculty enable students to develop self-confidence, self-discipline and inquisitive minds. Serving an average of 250 kindergarten through fifth grade students in the Lower School, and 120 sixth through eighth grade students in the Middle School, St. Michael’s has two classes per grade. There is a total faculty ratio of 1:11, with most classes averaging twenty students.
